During the Interview
Find A Job
The interview is your chance to shine, prove your value and share your experiences. Read LaSalle's quick tips for success
- Non-Verbal Communication – A large portion of the interview isn’t what you say, it’s how you hold yourself together and the general impression you give. Make sure you:
- Smile
- Give a firm handshake
- Maintain eye contact
- Sit up straight
- Don’t fidget (playing with hair, biting nails, moving feet, etc.)
- Be Concise – Don’t ramble on and on. Choose your words wisely and be succinct
- Answer the Question – It is easy to get off on a tangent, so make sure you stay on track and actually answer the question you are asked
- Provide Examples – When asked what skills you can bring to the job, provide solid examples that demonstrate these skills. Don’t just say you are goal-oriented; tell a story about a time where your focus on the end product helped your company succeed
- Express Interest – Don’t be afraid to say you want the job. Be enthusiastic and excited about the position and make it clear that you really want to be hired
- Ask About Next Steps – Find out when you should hear back and reiterate your interest
- Always Have Questions – Never say, “everyone has already answered my questions”
- It’s Good to Ask Different People the Same Questions
