The Senior Project Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial aspects of large-scale construction projects. This position requires a thorough understanding of project accounting, financial reporting and cost control, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within scope and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, exceptional analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers and other stakeholders.
Senior Project Accountant Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all financial aspects of assigned construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting
- Monitor and analyze project costs, identifying variances and providing timely recommendations to project management to ensure projects remain within budget
- Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with company policies and relevant accounting standards
- Review and manage project contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and advising on financial implications of contract changes
- Coordinate with the accounts payable and receivable teams to ensure accurate and timely billing, payments and collections
- Prepare and present regular financial reports, including project P&L statements, cash flow forecasts and variance analysis
- Work closely with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between project goals and financial outcomes
Senior Project Accountant Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in project accounting, with a strong background in construction or engineering industries
- Proficiency in mid to large size ERP system (i.e. SAP, NetSuite, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, construction accounting principles and revenue recognition standards
