LaSalle Network has partnered with a global manufacturing company, located in Northbrook, IL who is immediately seeking a State Tax Manager. The State Tax Manager will be responsible for all aspects of client's state tax return filings and state and local audits and will assist with client's state income tax provision. This is a hybrid position at a great company with potential growth! 

State Tax Manager Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for management and supervision of all aspects of state tax compliance and will assist with quarterly and annual state income tax provision reporting
  • Responsible for the company's response to all state tax examinations including management of audits and responding to information document requests
  • Responsible for reviewing state apportionment data for both the year-end tax provision and the filing of state tax returns
  • Monitors and analyzes tax regulatory and compliance developments and tax law changes and communicates its impact to Tax Department
  • Maintains state statute of limitations chart and updates quarterly state FAS 5 and FIN 48 memos
  • Works with tax accounting team to align tax financial reporting with the compliance process
  • Participates in organization wide system initiatives to ensure tax requirements are considered
  • Supports the Company's position during the financial audits
  • Assists Tax Director(s) with analysis of risks and sustainability of various tax positions taken in the tax filings and financial statements
  • Oversees implementation and maintenance of tax compliance software
  • Participates in the Company’s pursuit of incentives related to potential expansions of existing facilities and the development of new facilities
  • Writes state tax technical memoranda and performs ad-hoc research as needed
  • Routinely interacts with internal and external constituents and represents Client's Tax Department
  • Travel to various Company facilities and professional education/training programs may be required
  • Management of the tax staff requires coordination of major responsibilities of the group. Time constraints can be demanding and require significant planning, organizing, directing of people, events and resources
  • Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements.  Ensures that established processes/procedures are followed as designed
  • Works with internal controls department to identify deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, the need for new ones and the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed.  Develops and implements corrective actions with regard to department internal controls as necessary

State Tax Manager Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, with preference for a graduate tax degree (MST, MBA or LLM) and/or JD is required
  • Source Income Tax Software experience highly preferred
  • Professional certification (e.g., Certified Public Accountant and/or IPT-CMI designation) a plus
  • 7+ years of state tax experience with a large corporate organization or public accounting firm is highly preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Possession of well-developed tax technical expertise in state taxes and the ability to effectively address and manage complex matters involving past, present and future considerations and consequences
  • Strong critical and analytical thinking skills and the ability to identify issues and develop and implement practical solutions
  • Experience and familiarity with ERP systems
  • Strong knowledge of Thomson Reuters OneSource Income Tax is preferred
  • Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to act as an advocate for the Company, when necessary, and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people within and outside CF
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment
