Our client, a global leader in reinsurance with an expanding portfolio located in Chesterfield, Missouri, is seeking a Director of Qualified Hedging to drive their derivative accounting processes and hedge strategies. This position arises from an organizational need for enhanced technical expertise to support continued growth. The Director of Qualified Hedging will be integral to ensuring accuracy in qualified hedge accounting, particularly in cash flow and fair value hedges, and will collaborate across departments to address complex financial matters.
Director of Qualified Hedging Responsibilities:
- Oversee derivative accounting processes, ensuring alignment with GAAP standards for qualified hedge accounting
- Conduct hedge effectiveness testing for active and prospective strategies
- Prepare and document Hedge Designation Memos for new qualified strategies
- Develop and maintain derivative system setups for emerging hedging strategies
- Provide analysis, testing and documentation for newly implemented hedging structures, fostering cross-departmental understanding
- Drive improvements in accounting infrastructure to accommodate evolving derivative strategies and support compliance
- Engage in training initiatives to improve hedge accounting practices and system usage
- Actively contribute to risk committee reporting, analyzing bond cash flow hedging impacts
- Support the new deal process, offering insight on hedging methodologies and derivatives in foreign operations
Director of Qualified Hedging Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field
- 8+ years in insurance accounting, auditing or investment accounting, with deep knowledge of derivatives and hedge accounting
- Proficiency in project management with an ability to lead system-related projects independently
- Strong understanding of derivative instruments, hedging methodologies and accounting for complex financial products
- Proven experience with GAAP compliance and regulatory policies, particularly as they apply to hedging practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders, including traders and risk committees
- Advanced skills in Excel and Word; adept in translating complex accounting needs into actionable IT requirements
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment
