We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Outpatient Coder to join our client’s coding team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately coding outpatient services, ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of coding principles, excellent attention to detail and experience with outpatient coding practices.
Outpatient Coder Responsibilities:
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes for outpatient services, ensuring accurate documentation of diagnoses, procedures and treatments
- Analyze medical records and clinical documentation to verify code assignment, ensuring completeness and compliance with coding guidelines
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance payers, ensuring all necessary documentation and coding are included to facilitate prompt reimbursement
- Collaborate with the billing department to review denied claims, identify coding issues and provide necessary corrections for resubmission
- Adhere to regulatory and payer-specific coding guidelines, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations. Participate in coding audits and quality assurance reviews
- Stay current with coding updates, industry changes and best practices through ongoing education and professional development
- Work closely with physicians, clinical staff and billing teams to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy
Outpatient Coder Requirements:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or equivalent coding certification required
- 1+ years of outpatient coding experience in a healthcare setting
- Proficiency in coding software, electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clinical and administrative teams
- Understanding of healthcare regulations, billing practices and insurance reimbursement processes
