The Regulatory Accountant will prepare medium to large scope regulatory filings while ensuring compliance with Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming, and Federal ONRR (Office of Natural Resources Revenue) reporting requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and experience with oil & gas accounting systems such as Excalibur, Oildex, and JIB Link.
Interim Regulatory Accountant Responsibilities:
- Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with government agency reporting standards
- Compute royalty/taxes owed and prepare agency returns for Oklahoma gross production tax, Wyoming severance tax, Texas severance tax, and Federal ONRR reporting
- Assist with agency audits and ensure timely responses to inquiries
- Develop and maintain Excel-based models and templates for tax calculations and reporting
- Reconcile revenue and production bookings to ensure accurate reporting
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy
- Stay current with state and federal regulatory changes and implement necessary adjustments
Interim Regulatory Accountant Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in regulatory accounting, tax compliance, or financial reporting within the Oil & Gas industry
- Expertise in Oklahoma gross production tax, Wyoming and Texas severance taxes, and Federal ONRR reporting
- Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros, and complex formulas) to drive return calculations
- Experience with Excalibur accounting software is preferred; familiarity with Oildex and JIB Link is a plus
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex tax regulations
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
