Human Resources Generalist – Benefits (Educator and Enrollment)
LaSalle Network is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Chicago area to identify a Human Resources Generalist – Benefits to join their team. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional with a strong understanding of employee benefits, compliance, and employee communications. This is a critical role responsible for leading benefits education, administration, and compliance efforts across the organization. You’ll serve as the primary contact for all employee benefit matters while also contributing to broader HR initiatives that support a positive and inclusive workplace.
HR Generalist – Benefits Responsibilities:

Serve as the subject matter expert on employee benefits, guiding staff through plan options, claims issues, and enrollment

Lead the annual open enrollment process, including preparation, communication, and post-enrollment follow-up

Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations (e.g., ACA, FMLA, COBRA)

Maintain accurate benefits data in the HRIS system, ensuring timely updates to employee records and payroll deductions

Communicate benefits-related changes tied to position updates, life events, and leaves of absence

Draft, update, and implement HR policies and procedures in alignment with organizational and legal standards

Provide regular reporting and benefits-related insights to senior leadership

Support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives as part of broader HR efforts

Perform additional HR duties and projects as assigned
HR Generalist – Benefits Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

HR certification (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)

Minimum of 2 years of experience in human resources with a focus on benefits administration

In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and other employment laws

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and familiarity with HRIS platforms

Strong written and verbal communication skills with a service-oriented mindset

Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and work independently

Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and insurance with the ability to travel between office locations

Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required
