Our client, a mid-sized real estate property management company, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join their team. The Assistant Controller will be overseeing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance and the efficient processing of financial transactions across their property portfolio. This role is integral to maintaining the integrity of financial reports, assisting with budgeting and supporting audits. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience in real estate accounting and a commitment to driving process improvements. This position is hybrid with one day in the office a week.

Assistant Controller Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the monthly, quarterly and annual close functions, ensuring that all transitions are booked in a timely manner and in accord with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Works with external auditors as part of the close process
  • Supervises and prepares general ledger reconciliations and performs account analysis
  • Manages month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Prepares and analyze financial statements, providing insights to senior management to support decision-making
  • Setting accounting policy, completion of month-end close, execution of the year-end audit and researching accounting issues

Assistant Controller Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA certification required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in accounting software
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • Proven leadership abilities, with the ability to motivate and develop a team
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
