Construction Controller Responsibilities:
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including AR, AP, payroll, job costing, and general ledger
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare internal financial statements, dashboards, and KPIs for leadership review
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to monitor job costs and profitability
- Develop, implement, and monitor budgets and forecasts in coordination with leadership
- Manage cash flow and prepare cash flow projections
- Support year-end audit and tax preparation in collaboration with external CPA firm
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate and improve accounting systems, processes, and technologies
- Lead and mentor accounting staff to promote professional growth and efficiency
- Assist in strategic financial planning and long-term decision-making
Construction Controller Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, WIP schedules, and job costing principles
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with ability to collaborate across departments
- Experience with union/non-union payroll, certified payroll, and construction billing (AIA format) is a plus
