Our client is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Cost Accountant with experience in the food and beverage industry to join our client’s team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for tracking and analyzing costs, providing cost insights for decision-making and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of cost-related financial processes. This is a key role in helping the company manage margins and profitability while maintaining accurate financial records.

Cost Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost reports, including product costs, overhead costs and cost variance analysis. Provide insights into cost structures and identify areas for improvement
  • Oversee and manage the company’s inventory, including tracking raw materials, work in progress and finished goods. Ensure proper valuation of inventory and reconciliations between physical counts and the general ledger
  • Accurately calculate and update cost of goods sold (COGS) for finished goods and raw materials. Ensure that all direct and indirect costs are captured accurately in product costing
  • Develop and maintain standard costs for products, review and update cost estimates regularly and investigate variances between actual costs and standard costs
  • Analyze gross margins and highlight cost-saving opportunities or areas where cost increases may impact profitability
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities by providing cost projections and variance analyses to management. Collaborate with departments to ensure that budgets align with actual performance
  • Reconcile cost-related accounts, including inventory and COGS accounts, to ensure accuracy in the financial statements. Assist in monthly and year-end closing processes
  • Collaborate with the production, procurement and operations teams to identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes and enhance profitability without sacrificing quality
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures. Provide support for internal and external audits, including responding to audit queries related to cost accounting

Cost Accountant Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience as a Cost Accountant, ideally in the food and beverage industry, with a strong understanding of production costs, inventory management and cost allocation
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics or other ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills for cost analysis and reporting
  • Knowledge of food production costs, raw materials, waste management, packaging costs and regulatory requirements for the food industry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex cost information to non-financial stakeholders and senior management
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
