The Finance Manager will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of the manufacturing facility in the western suburbs of Chicago. This position will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, results-oriented professional with strong analytical and communication skills.
Responsibilities of the Finance Manager:
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and achievable financial plans.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis and commentary, providing insights to management on financial performance
- Oversee cost accounting activities, ensuring accurate tracking and analysis of manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor and overhead
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement and potential risks, providing recommendations to management
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting regulations
- Support the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures
- Collaborate with other departments, such as operations, sales, and purchasing, to achieve company objectives
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff (if applicable)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications of the Finance Manager:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) is highly desirable
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, vlookups, macros)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
