Our client, a 300+ employee machinery manufacturing company, is hiring an HR Director to join their on-site team in Grand Rapids, MI! This is an exciting opportunity to manage a small HR team and lead human resources efforts in this unionized plant. You will partner closely with the Operations Management team and other local leadership and be the key point of contact for all union-related aspects, supporting 180 union employees. HR Director Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop a small HR team and delegate tasks accordingly
  • Manage union grievance process and serve as key POC for 180 union employees
  • Implement long term strategic HR policies, programs and talent management strategies
  • Provide guidance on policy, laws and corrective actions
  • Oversee employee training programs and manage the Joint Training Committee
  • Drive a performance-based culture and support operations management with employee evaluations and ongoing training needs
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state and local employment laws
  • Manage statewide grants for employee development opportunities
  • Handle monthly HR operational reporting and other HR administrative tasks

HR Director Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 6+ years of well-rounded HR experience
  • 2+ years in a people-management role
  • 2+ years’ experience in a demanding union environment, including leading grievance processes, dissecting union contracts and managing the relationship with the union
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
  • Experience with SAP Success Factors and ADP Time & Attendance preferred
