LaSalle Network has partnered with a healthcare provider based in Mossville, LA, in their search for a Medical Collector. The Medical Collector is responsible for managing and collecting payments on outstanding medical bills. This role involves working with patients, insurance companies and internal departments to ensure timely and accurate collection of payments, resolving discrepancies and maintaining comprehensive records.
Medical Collector Responsibilities:
- Contact patients and insurance companies to collect outstanding balances
- Review and analyze patient accounts to identify overdue payments
- Negotiate payment plans and arrangements with patients
- Verify insurance information and resolve any discrepancies
- Communicate with healthcare providers and departments to clarify billing issues
- Document all collection activities and maintain accurate records in the billing system
- Follow up on unpaid claims and appeal denied claims when necessary
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations regarding medical billing and collections
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain professionalism in all interactions
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Billing and Collections Manager
Medical Collector Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, accounting or a related field preferred
- Previous experience in medical billing and collections, or a related field, is highly desirable
- Knowledge of medical terminology, billing codes and insurance processes
- Proficient in using billing software and computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and compliance
