Our client, a Family-Focused organization located in Nashville, is in need of a Risk and Safety Manager. Their ideal candidate will possess first-hand knowledge of claims, specifically surrounding vehicle and company-side claim support.  

Risk and Safety Manager Responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a robust safety culture by raising awareness, conducting regular training and encouraging active employee involvement in safety initiatives to align with organizational goals and regulatory standards
  • Design and implement the organization’s risk management process, including analyzing the financial impact of risks
  • Build risk awareness among staff by offering support and training throughout the company
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards and establish measures to mitigate risks
  • Develop and update risk management plans as necessary
  • Prepare action plans to reduce risk factors
  • Lead the Safety Committee and educate leadership on the most significant risks to the business
  • Oversee incident/accident investigations and lead root cause analysis programs
  • Organize and lead safety meetings and training for all employees
  • Ensure thorough understanding and implementation of safety standards and program development
  • Hold individuals accountable for managing their own risks
  • Maintain and manage records of insurance claims and policies
  • Develop risk-based orientation programs for new employees, including reviewing company safety policies, procedures, safety training and on-the-job observations
  • Maintain risk management reporting on established metrics and develop new ones to add value to the team
  • Conduct policy and compliance audits, representing the company with both internal and external parties
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining risk management and insurance budgets
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies at the local, state and federal levels, including OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations, while demonstrating a deep understanding of EHS standards and DOT requirements
  • Serve as the primary liaison with DOT compliance authorities, including FMCSA, state DOT offices and local enforcement agencies
  • Partner with branch locations to enhance emergency response plans, including incident response, evacuation procedures and first aid protocols
  • Conduct regular audits at branch locations, assessing employee performance, equipment and site conditions
  • Provide risk awareness and avoidance training and certification for staff
  • Establish effective processes to address workplace accidents, injuries or near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents
  • Monitor company and industry loss trends, developing new policies and procedures as industry practices evolve or incidents occur

Risk and Safety Manager Requirements:
  • Frequently spend long periods sitting and working with office equipment and computers (50% of the time)
  • Must be mobile to attend weekly meetings throughout the organization
  • Regularly engage in verbal and written communication with colleagues
  • Ability to frequently bend to organize and manage files and occasionally lift 5-10 pounds
  • Maintain good visual acuity
  • Proven experience in occupational health, safety and risk management with a strong understanding of legal guidelines
  • Maintain confidentiality on all private, sensitive and proprietary business matters
  • Extensive experience in managing training courses, schedules and recordkeeping
  • Willingness to pursue continued training for personal growth and participate in the training of new employees
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration or 5+ years of risk management experience is preferred
  • Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification is preferred
  • Extensive experience with EHS and DOT safety audits, training programs and accident investigations is preferred
  • Proficiency in using computers, data entry and the Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Proven ability to design and implement successful behavioral-based safety programs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and a professional demeanor
  • A collaborative, customer-focused approach to work
  • Exceptional analytical skills are required
  • Willingness to contribute positively to a team environment
  • Strong self-motivation and desire to excel
