They are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant with a background in Big 10 public accounting and audit experience to join their growing finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and performing various accounting tasks, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and supporting the company's financial objectives.
Senior Accountant Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Oversee and maintain the general ledger, including reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts and ensuring proper classification of transactions
- Lead internal and external audits, preparing required schedules, financial reports and supporting documentation. Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate audits
- Review project cost accounting and job costing, ensuring proper allocation of costs and timely recognition of revenue
- Assist with corporate tax compliance, including federal, state and local filings. Support the preparation of tax returns and filings related to construction-specific tax matters (e.g., sales tax, use tax, etc.)
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures, identifying and mitigating financial risks
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, working closely with project managers and other departments to ensure financial performance aligns with expectations
- Provide insights and analysis to senior management, including variance analysis, profitability analysis and cost trends
- Collaborate with project managers and the operations team to provide financial guidance and ensure that project financials are accurate, timely and aligned with contractual terms
- Prepare special reports and analyses as required by management, senior leadership and external stakeholders
Senior Accountant Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 1+ years at a Big 10 public accounting firm with audit experience
- Experience in construction, engineering or a related project-based industry is highly preferred
- Proven experience in managing audits, financial reporting and regulatory compliance
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting and accounting principles
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or construction-specific software) and MS Excel (advanced skills required)
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Knowledge of construction accounting and revenue recognition standards (e.g., percentage of completion) is a plus
