The Transportation Planner will be responsible for designing, planning and optimizing the transportation of goods across various routes and modes. This role involves working closely with internal teams, carriers and external vendors to ensure on-time delivery while minimizing costs and maximizing service levels.
Transportation Planner Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage transportation routes to improve efficiency, reduce costs and ensure timely delivery
- Build and maintain relationships with carriers, negotiate rates and monitor carrier performance
- Analyze transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining quality service
- Monitor transportation metrics, identify trends and prepare reports to inform decision-making
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local transportation regulations
- Work with cross-functional teams, including warehouse, procurement and customer service teams, to align transportation planning with business needs
- Address transportation-related issues, including delays, damaged goods or other disruptions, and provide effective solutions
- Explore and implement environmentally sustainable transportation options when feasible
Transportation Planner Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred to be focused in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business or a related field
- Experience in a customer service role
- Ability to interface with multiple levels of an organization internally and externally
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Proficiency Microsoft Office/365 (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to devote strong attention to detail while multitasking in a fast-paced work environment
- Preferred to have experience with SAP R/3 and BW
- Position is remote but candidate must live in WI/IL area to be considered
