Each year, approximately 200,000 military men and women transition out of service and back into civilian life, which for many, includes starting the job-search process. Our program, the LaSalle Veteran Network, aims to support veterans in their job–search journey, equipping them with the necessary tools to launch their post-military careers, as well as work with hiring companies to provide insight and guidance on successfully recruiting this talent group.
Service Members of every branch undergo intensive training to become experts in a wide range of skills and concepts, and professional growth and advancement are both expected and required. They are strong leaders, who can work both in teams and independently, and work well under pressure or in a fast-paced environment. In fact, in a recent SHRM survey, 59% of employers reported veteran employees performed better or much better than their non-veteran peers.
Veterans make our workforces stronger, however, many companies struggle to best identify roles that will best make use of veterans’ unique skillsets. We have created a Veteran Hiring Guide to help companies identify and recruit veteran talent, including information on:
- Military branches, ranks, hierarchy and terminology
- Specific hard and soft skills veterans bring to the workforce
- Benefits of hiring veterans
- Obstacles that may be encountered hiring veterans and how to overcome them
